What were the working hours of a typical person in 1912 and 1945?

Most working people would have worked longer hours than they do nowadays. The unfortunate girl in An Inspector Calls for instance, would have likely worked long shifts at the jobs she did. She would have had Sundays off, and perhaps a half day during the week (shops by law had a half day closing for instance).
