We never had problems with our landlord for the three years we have lived here everything started at the end of March my landlord came to my apartment without notice with her brother that lives down stairs demanding more money for rent we pay our portion of rent and section 8 pays the rest total $1,700 and she wanted $125 dollars more for rent, I asked her if she was serious she replied that she pays more money on taxes and that I receive more money from ssi so I have to pay more. In April someone from City Hall in Massachusetts came knocking on our door my mom answered it was board of health screaming to my mother thinking she was the landlord he said "I know you have an illegal apartment downstairs" my mom said she was not the landlord then he changed his tone he asked "is there anything wrong with the apartment" I said yes that the water turns cold after 10 minutes of showering and at that moment my mom turned me around and undid my hair that was in a bun and showed him how long was my hair almost to my knees letting him understand that 10 minutes is not enough, the inspectors answered "so cut your hair and problem solved" I could not believe his answer I could not answer back i was speechless but anyways he left after that. Last week the guy from downstairs came and said to clear out the build in cabinet that was all he said next day 5/17/11 contractors knocked on the hallway door, the hallway door connects upstairs to downstairs it goes thru our apartment anyway, he knocked and make himself welcome and started demolition cutting out the cabinet while my son my mom and myself were sitting in the kitchen eating dust flying all over the place on our food our furniture and kitchen counter-tops dust everywhere even in our nose and mouth I had to take my son to the clinic because he was sick and the dust made it worse he was coughing with out stop my mom screamed at them and they left. Then on friday 5/20/11 they shut the water off for 6 hours know tomorrow they want to shut of our electricity for 6 hours OR MORE let me say that tomorrow is going to be 86 degrees outside and very humid and the food in our refrigerator is going to spoil. I really don't know what to do because my mom cannot stay without air-conditioning she has a heart problem and had a heart attack in the winter time because of the landlord in the winter the landlord was responsible for the snow removal and no one would shovel so my mom had to and because of that she ended up in the hospital with a heart attack so know the landlord is doing all of this things so we can move out sooner that is what it looks like from my point of view. Wow... Home inspectors are...?

So We are selling our home for way less than it was once worth, as everyone is. We finally, afters days got the report from the buyers inspector and it has literally 30 things the buyer wants done, anything he recommended, he wants. Theyre testing common mold, they're just being assholes in general and making this a really awful time of stress. The man who inspected suggested things that our contract said doesnt need to be done, roof tiles being broken is stated as cosmetic! I am having a minor heart attack. he also wants us to repair cracks on the driveway, small cracks! I just dont get it at all. Is this what every inspector does? In the contract we're limited to the amount we spend on repairs, do they all expect you to pay for the tiniest things?

Lap band questions-please help?

ok so I have been thinking about getting the lap band for over a year now and have decided that this is the right choice for me. I am over weight and meet the BMI requirements for this surgery. my doctor submitted the request for me and it was denied. When I asked my medical group why they said that it was because I have to show them that I tried to lose weight and failed for a period of six months. When I asked how I was supposed to do this they said that i would need to sign up for such programs as nutri-system, weight watchers, etc. i explained to them that I could not afford these programs for six months because they are very expensive. They said that this was the only way to prove that i was on a diet. Can anyone think of a way that I could prove that I was on a diet for six months. My doctor stated that I was and they still wanted proof. I have Anthem Blue cross HMO and if approved this surgery is 100% free. Also I heard that the requirements for the lap band have changed. Does anyone know what the changes are?

I don't know what to do anymore..my 2 year old daughter suffers from hives? Its long, but PLEASE read.?

She has had hives for a little over a couple months nearly everyday. At first, I took her to urgent care because they were huge welts the size of breadsticks and I wasn't used to them so they scared me. Well I've been giving her antihistamine nearly everyday since to relieve her from the hives. We were told we had to wait 6 weeks before getting referred to a pediatric allergist because hives can be from a virus. Well, that is ruled out now, we went to the pediatric allergist on monday (which was an hour away, and the appointment lasted 3 hours...with a 2 year old during naptime-they schedule it for you because hes booked out and the only pediatric allergist within an hour and in our HMO provider list.) They did allergy testing for the top 13 food allergies common at her age and then also dust mites...she was allergic to NOTHING. Which I have a hard time believing, because ice cream and veggie dip makes her break out in hives badly, so does other things, but those are things we have noticed. The allergist told us to give her an antihistamine everyday for two months (we do anyways, and then for one month give as needed (WE DO ANYWAYS.) And then come back to see him in 3 months. Instead, I think I would rather drive as far as I have to and get a second opinion. I am so upset that she has horrible hives and there is no explanation. He also said we might have to get referred to a pediatric rheumatologist I think he called it because she could have an underlying autoimmune disorder, but he also said that should have been diagnosed already if she would have one. Also, her immune system could just be too immature to be picking up an allergy. I am just at a loss as to what to do. Please help in anyway you can. Refer me to any information, any experience. This is exhausting physically and emotionally. There is obviously something wrong.

Basement foundation advice?

Looking at buying a 50 year old brick ranch. I noticed the top of the basement concrete seemed pushed in and when I put a plumb from top plate to basement floor the top tips in 3 inches. They've put in some 2 x 8 steel wall brackets on the flat but they are also bowing. We have diagonal cracks and well as some horizontal cracks ANd quite a few cracks that are filled but have not re-cracked. Since they put those steel braces on I noticed the poles holding the center beams up are leaning 2+ inches as well and the beam is curved a little from end to end. So this indicates the whole house has moved. The inspector I had in saw all this and said that if we controlled the water runoff better that the house probably would not move much more and all seemed OK as it sits now. My fear is that everything is stressed so much now and you can notice the bend in the outside brick siding that just the slightest movement and everything will crack. So - should I run from this or do you think all is good?

Community college is cheap. Community college makes it easy to transfer to state colleges/private 4-year universities. Good grades in community college lead to scholarships. Financial aid also gives out loans like candy but you need to be careful with those since the interest rates can be a scam.

Instead of forcing these programs on people we should take some time to really find workable solutions to these problems but there is so much hate and spin spewed from everyone that nothing really gets accomplished except the further enslavement of a countries people to ones that don't produce and don't contribute in a positive way to society. The real test will come though when everyone who is contributing just stops and there is no more "food" for the machine - maybe then the "do-gooders" and "do-nothings" will see the flaw in their grandiose utopia crap but it won't be until the doers, producers stop and make you fend for yourself.

I injured my back 15 yrs. ago and have dealt with it myself over the years. Earlier this year, it bacame unmanageable, so I started seeing a chiropractor which manages the pain enough to keep me mobile and working. My HMO just hired an intermediary company that seems mostly to deny treatment. I have been denied any more treatments, so I've missed more work....more than I've ever missed in the twenty years I've worked at my company. I sent an appeal to the med. ins. company, but don't have much hope. It seems senseless to deny treatment that keeps me upright and working at my desk versus the cost of back adjustments, and this isn't even taking into consideration my time off which is now staying home, rotating between the couch and the recliner. I'm off again this past week and probably in big trouble at work for missing all this time. I pay for med coverage, why would they deny something that is working?

Audio and video cable not working?

I just got this audio & video cable made by iwave (model IA7505) and it doesn't work. One end plugs into the iPods headphone jack and the other into av jacks in your television. I went online to see if I could diagnose the problem but it didn't help much iwave's website said its plug and play but it isn't working. Anybody have any ideas about what I may be doing wrong? She has had hives for a little over a couple months nearly everyday. At first, I took her to urgent care because they were huge welts the size of breadsticks and I wasn't used to them so they scared me. Well I've been giving her antihistamine nearly everyday since to relieve her from the hives. We were told we had to wait 6 weeks before getting referred to a pediatric allergist because hives can be from a virus. Well, that is ruled out now, we went to the pediatric allergist on monday (which was an hour away, and the appointment lasted 3 hours...with a 2 year old during naptime-they schedule it for you because hes booked out and the only pediatric allergist within an hour and in our HMO provider list.) They did allergy testing for the top 13 food allergies common at her age and then also dust mites...she was allergic to NOTHING. Which I have a hard time believing, because ice cream and veggie dip makes her break out in hives badly, so does other things, but those are things we have noticed. The allergist told us to give her an antihistamine everyday for two months (we do anyways, and then for one month give as needed (WE DO ANYWAYS.) And then come back to see him in 3 months. Instead, I think I would rather drive as far as I have to and get a second opinion. I am so upset that she has horrible hives and there is no explanation. He also said we might have to get referred to a pediatric rheumatologist I think he called it because she could have an underlying autoimmune disorder, but he also said that should have been diagnosed already if she would have one. Also, her immune system could just be too immature to be picking up an allergy. I am just at a loss as to what to do. Please help in anyway you can. Refer me to any information, any experience. This is exhausting physically and emotionally. There is obviously something wrong.

However, it sounds like it probably doesn't really meet electrical code, in which, you would almost certainly be legally required to get it fixed before you sell the house (even if that's 20 years from now). I'm not a licensed electrician, so I'm not 100% sure, but it would probably be a good idea to get a local licensed electrician to come out and check it out and at least tell you whether it meets code and if not, how much it would cost to get it up to code.

Home inspection gone wrong?

My husband and I recently came to an agreement on an offer on a home. The house is 5 years old and we decided to do a home inspection for our safety. My husband was unable to attend the home inspection but I was able. When I arrived at the home the sellers were still inside and I felt very uncomfortable that I immediately called the realtor and told her. She called the sellers agent and told them they need to be gone from the home because its an awkward situation and when purchasing a home you need to be able to ask questions freely without offending the sellers. They said they would be gone by a certain time and when I returned the inspection was already over and the sellers were still inside. When talking to the inspector he said when they asked if they had to leave he told them no. He said the house was cluttered and he couldn't see everything. The inspector didn't give me a walk through and in the pictures he sent me there are the sellers kids in them. I don't feel a proper inspection was done and I don't know if I even want to go through with the house anymore. I just have a bad feeling. If we backed out now would we loose our escrow money? Possible Asbestos in my recently purchased home?

rencently purchased a home with an FHA loan. I removed the carpet to put in laminate, and discovered that the flooring underneath may be asphalt asbestos. No one told me about this previously. Also, the former owner patched an area of the floor (the subfloor is concrete) and he sanded some of the tile. Should my inspector have told me about the posibility of this floor containing asbestos? He saw the tile underneath, but probably did not see the part that was sanded. Also, he was telling me that it would not be a big deal to even out the flooring. He said that I could grind the high spots and use leveling compound on the low spots. This would obviously involve removal of the Asphalt tile. I am angry that the previous owner damaged the tile and possibly caused a health hazard for myself and my 5 year old son. Now I am looking at staying with a friend until this is resolved. I am self employed and trying to get insured for myself through Blue Shield of CA. I'm going through a broker, they seem to be the biggest one and I have the impression they are maybe directly under Blue Shield itself. Anyway, all the plans state that they are for 12 months. Does this mean you can't cancel before 12 months or that after 12 months you have to re-apply from scratch? If you're in CA can you recommend somewhere to buy the plan from? I have worked for this company for 12 years. I am male, early 40's, and in good health. The problem i have with this is that our 'safety director' is an idiot. He doesn't know how to even spell confidentiality much less the definition of the word. I don't trust him with private information like my medical records. Can they still 'require' that we give them access? We are not a medical company, insurance provider, or HMO.

Well, Friday night I was watching television and I went into SVT for maybe 10-20 seconds and I've been having a lot more skipped beats since. Is this normal? I had a great dentist in Whittier. Her name is Sheryl Morrison DDS. No scams and she is gentle. I miss going to her because I moved to the desert area in CA Palm Desert. I may still go to her again even though it is 110 miles away. So no they are not all crooks. If you don't clean your teeth three to four times a year you will end up needing a deep cleaning. I had to have one but my insurance covered it. 500 dollars is an obscene amount. Most will charge about 80 dollars more than a regular cleaning. You don't need to be numbed unless it actually hurts. I was not numb and it was fine. That is what cost money.

My children have state issued medicaid, and I recently moved, and got information in the mail to choose a dentist for them. I am attempting to find one, but the website I was directed to use asks if my plan type is PPO, traditional, true blue HMO, or discount orthodontia.
